- Our Story
- Darrel was only 5 when he was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma in September 2005. Over the following two years, there were many highs...and countless extreme lows. On September 9, 2007, his long battle came to an end.
He refused to let the cancer beat him, and in all the ways that count, it didn't. Through it all, Darrel almost never lost his smile, his laugh, and his strong will and determination to have fun each and every day.
Some descriptions of neuroblastoma say it is a rare form of cancer. That is a BIG LIE!! Once our family was touched by it, we soon discovered many other children who had the disease. It may not get much exposure in the media, but there far more cases than there should be. Anything that goes out of its way to only target young children who have never done wrong to anybody should be better known and supported by everyone.
The webpages I've set up on MySpace and Facebook for Darrel have more information about what happened over those two years, and how things have moved on since then.

Through reading their blogs, watching the various video clips, or through sending e-mails, on many levels, I feel like I've already met these people. We have all shared in a similar journey, and a most unfortunate outcome. Our children will always be treasured and remembered.

Sept 9/09 - Stuck In A Moment: Two Years Later

It has now been two years since my son Darrel was taken from us. Though the Earth continues to spin around, and life, with all its joys, trials, and tribulations continues to unfold before me each day, September 9, 2007 will forever linger in every fibre of who I am. It is both impossible to believe, and unbearable to fully take in the fact that a year has passed since Darrel's death. More Than Meets The Eye

As the one year anniversary of Darrel's death looms closer, it is still impossible to believe he is actually gone. There is still, and hopefully always will be, so much of him in every corner of the house.
